Garbage Day!
So, we have had a very LARGE pile of garbage in our two garbage cans at the house. It smelled something awful. Let's just say that today when I had to take it out I gagged twice and thought I was going to throw up. We were wondering how to go about getting our garbage taken care of and as were sitting at the breakfast table today we heard some yelling from the street "basura, basura!" So we poked our head out and sure enough our land lady was yelling for everyone to put their trash out and we could see a large truck up the hill completely full of trash coming our way. So we proceeded to put out the trash and then asked our land lady if garbage day was every Friday. Her response was great! She said "No mi amor, siempre hay basura aqui" (no my dear, there is always garbage here.) as she laughed and shook her head as if that was such a silly question to ask. She must have been thinking, "Oh gringas, so crazy". Then she proceeded to tell us in Spanish that garbage day could be everyday but Honduras would always be dirty. We proceeded to then ask her if she would always yell "basura" when they came and she said yes. Bottom line, there is no garbage day. Just have to listen for the yelling.
